Estimated glomerular filtration rate

eGFR Calculator using the CKD-EPI 2021 Equation

Calculate estimated glomerular filtration rate with the race-free CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation using SI-friendly creatinine inputs for South African clinical workflows.

eGFR CKD-EPI 2021 calculator

Use this eGFR calculator to estimate kidney function from age, sex, and serum creatinine. ClinFuse defaults to µmol/L, converts internally to mg/dL for the published CKD-EPI 2021 equation, and reports mL/min/1.73 m².

Equations used on this page

eGFR = 142 × min(Scr/κ, 1)^α × max(Scr/κ, 1)^-1.200 × 0.9938^Age × 1.012 [if female]
κ = 0.7 for female and 0.9 for male; α = -0.241 for female and -0.302 for male; Scr is serum creatinine in mg/dL.
ClinFuse converts creatinine from µmol/L to mg/dL by dividing by 88.4 before applying the equation.

Clinical notes

eGFR is normalized to body surface area and is most useful for chronic kidney disease staging when renal function is stable.

Use caution in acute kidney injury, pregnancy, extremes of muscle mass, amputees, and rapidly changing creatinine values.

For drug dosing, creatinine clearance may still be requested in some prescribing references; see the Cockcroft-Gault calculator.
